Don’t Take The Risk Of Back Damage

Although it is completely impossible to avoid all danger in life, it’s a good idea to use caution in situations that are likely to cause you back pain.

It’s All Fun And Games Until...

Outdoor activities like rock climbing are really good exercise (good for avoiding pack pain) and lots of fun. However, it’s important you don’t take any shortcuts when it come to your safety. A fall from the heights associated with this activity can seriously and permanently damage your back.

Make sure all your equipment is in good condition, and reliable in all situations. Always do an activity like this with someone else, a person you can trust to know how to help you out if everything turns to custard. An afternoon of fun isn’t worth a severe injury, so if you can’t count on your mates or your equipment, don’t participate in this kind of activity.

In The Home

Household accidents, particularly falls, can also result in back damage and pain. Stairs are a place within the home which can result in serious back injury. A fall down a flight of stairs is something that can happen to anyone, but children and the elderly are especially at risk.

If there are children in your household, putting a baby gate up at the top and bottom of the stairs is a good way to keep them safe. Ensuring hand rails are secure and encouraging all members of the family use them is also a good way to avoid falls.

Also, when using a ladder to put up the Christmas lights, don’t do it alone. Having a spotter to hold the ladder and make sure it’s stable can make the difference between a life-changing fall and a prettily decorated house.

Use Caution

General caution in all situations will help you avoid all injuries, not just back pain. Next time you’re in the supermarket and you see a wet floor sign, don’t disregard it. Take heed and walk carefully around the wet patch. Slipping over is not only embarrassing (yes, I am speaking from experience), but it can cause you serious back injuries.

This caution should be used everywhere; it’s really just common sense. Look both ways before crossing the street, even if the little green man has said you can go. Walk around the pool, don’t run. Don’t try to lift objects heavier than you can handle. Basically, just be sensible.

Use your common sense, and don’t make your back pay for your mistakes.
